Four Cuban Masters
Linocut-Portfolio
Four Cuban Masters The artists chosen for this portfolio are pivotal figures in the development of modern art in Cuba. Bermudez and Careno are major figures in the second generation of Cuban modernists (which emerged during the forties), a generation which combined the aesthetic concerns of surrealism and other European schools with an exploration of regional themes. Fernandez and Mijares belong to the third generation (which emerged during the fifties). Cuban art during this time reached its maturity and explored fully the various abstract currents of the decade: geometric and expressionist abstraction and abstract surrealism in particular.
